YCLSA appalled by gender based violent attacks and killings

The Young Communist League of South Africa (Ufasimba) unwaveringly joins millions of South Africans in expressing shock, disappointment and pain at the scourge of gender based violent killings and attacks on women in the past weeks; killings and attacks that nonetheless continue to dominate the national discourse even now. The YCLSA stands with all women of this Republic and would like to offer our unconditional solidarity to them. The YCLSA would also like to send condolences to all families that have lost their loved ones as a result of these ruthless killings targeted at women.

We stand with our women because we know that there can never be a revolution without our women. As young people we have a responsibility of being in the forefront in exposing and isolating all criminal elements among us as they squander the future of society. It is for this reason that we have instructed all our branches to convene branch meetings and programmes that will discuss and find practical solutions on how to make their communities safe, as well as strengthening community policing forums, not only to condemn gender based violence and rape culture but to stop such.

Our branches working closely with civil society formations will be advising the Police in the areas on how to be highly responsive when these attacks on women are being perpetuated, as well as to bust any syndicate unit around these heinous acts. We join all those calling for safety of our public places and communities and we hope the police will reinforce.
