YCLSA Statement on Assassination attempts at the second DGS of the SACP
As the YCLSA [uFasimba] we are deeply outraged by an attempt to assassinate the second Deputy General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP) Cde Solly Mapaila at an official wreath-laying ceremony which was part of the commemoration of the anniversary of the death of Cde Chris Hani on the 10th April 2017 in Boksburg.
The aborted assassination attempt was captured on video without the awareness of the perpetrator who, without any doubt, had been given orders by his political masters. As such, the YCLSA joined the SACP in laying charges with the police.
As the YCLSA, we would like to make aware the entire South African community that, as the parasitic bourgeoisie is put under pressure to leave the national purse alone and is exposed of its anti-poor and anti-worker shenanigans, voices of dissent will be targeted and dealt with as it tragically happened to Cde Chris Hani. And the assassination attempt at Cde Mapaila is one such incident.
As the YCLSA, we believe that this is in no way isolated from the social, economic and political malaise we face as a country. Those young people who are neither at work nor at school will be used by the political elite to commit the most insensitive of acts.
The manufactured state of poverty and unemployment by an insensitive capitalist system will always be a fertile ground for assassins. Simply because helpless, hopeless and therefore vulnerable people will be willing to do anything to put something on the table. This often goes to an extent of them being hired to pull the trigger and take other people's lives. This is the lumpen-proletariat strata that will always be taken advantage of by the political elite hell-bent on protecting its ill-gotten privileges.
We thank Cde Chris Hani, he saved Cde Solly. He could not allow the fate that befell him to befall those who had taken the baton from him to champion a working class cause.
The YCLSA is never going to fold its arms in the midst of a series of attempts to get rid of communists. In fact, such an act of cowardice calls, from all young people in general and YCLSA structures in particular,m for a more intensified youth mobilization for socialism against all odds. After all, we have a historic mission to accomplish, we can only neglect such a noble cause at our own peril.
