YCLSA Statement on the passing away of Joe Mafela
19 March 2017
The YCLSA is deeply saddened by the passing away of Mr Joe Mafela. We send our heartfelt condolences to the Mafela family, as well as his friends and fans. As the YCLSA we mourn with the entire South African community.
Mr Mafela was a songwriter, an actor, a producer, but the YCLSA understood him not merely as entertainment industry personnel but as someone whose art work was reflective of the cultural life-blood of the communities of the marginalized. His art work organically linked with people's lived experiences.
While Mr Mafela has left the world of the living, his works shall continue to inspire us as the working class youth to fight for a better society. We mourn his passing with the recognition of the fact that, in the midst of injustices we remain soldiers of a just society.
May his soul rest in peace.
