YCLSA statement on Israeli Apartheid Week
4 February 2017
As the Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] we are fully in support of the Israeli Apartheid Week activities and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions [BDS] initiatives against the Israeli regime which systematically and ruthlessly assaults the rights of the native people of Palestine.
The IAW starts on the 6th to the 12th of March 2017. This is an eventful week of seminars, protests, rallies, concerts, lectures, film screening, etc. The aim of IAW is to "raise awareness of Israel's apartheid policies towards the indigenous Palestinians".
The campaign is therefore one of the many ways and means through which every peace-loving person can participate in the activities which attempt to bring about justice to the people of Palestine, whose humanity is blatantly trampled underfoot by an insensitive and violent imperialist-backed Israeli regime.
As the YCLSA, we cannot cowardly fold our arms and conveniently bask in the glory of the democracy of our country while injustice and violence rob many people of their aspirations and dreams to live as human beings. Our participation in such emancipatory programmes is not out of mere sentiments, but rather a matter of revolutionary necessity in the context of working class international solidarity for a just world.
